Thursday’s OH Chamber forum focusing on Biz Buzz

Oak Harbor Chamber will feature a Biz Buzz networking luncheon from 11:30 a.m.-1 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Whidbey Golf and Country Club. Attendees will need to bring 30 business cards or flyers to promote their business.

Global Entrepreneurship continues this week

During Nov. 18-24, the Island County Economic Development Council will sponsor free workshops covering business plans, resources, financing and insurance.

Three workshops remain and the topics include Small Business Association financing, bank financing and insurance.

Attendance is free, but reservations are required for all workshops.

OHHS students seek help   practicing for interviews

Oak Harbor High School Work Preparation class is finishing up their unit on Job Search and Personal Finance. The projects include resumes and job application forms.

Volunteers are needed to help with mock interviews for the students. Some time frames needing to be filled are 7:40-8:40 a.m., 8:40-9:40 a.m., and 12:15-1:15 p.m. on Nov 21 to interview three to four students.

A total of nine volunteers are needed for each of the three sessions. Questions and a scoring rubric will be provided. Those interested can contact Sabrina Underwood, OHHS business education teacher at 360-279-5762 or sunderwood@ohsd.net

 

Start your own business focus of free EDC workshop

Starting a business can daunt any entrepreneur. Come learn how to start a business at a free business planning class sponsored by the Island County Economic Development Council (ICEDC) and Sno-Isle Library from 1-3 p.m. Dec. 3.

During this workshop, attendees will learn how to set a vision, analyze the market, determine which marketing channel is most effective and build a cash flow document.

Sno-Isle Library will also demonstrate its free online business tools.

Oak Harbor’s Shop Local campaign underway

The 2013 Shop Local Campaign is under way. When shopping local, be sure to save the receipts. If you bring in your receipts dated between Nov. 29 – Dec. 31 to the Oak Harbor Chamber of Commerce, for every $50 you spend with a merchant in the 98277 area, you will receive a ticket to win the holiday gift tree. If they are an Oak Harbor Chamber Member, you will receive two tickets for every $50 you spend.

The maximum amount of tickets you can receive is 10 tickets — 20 if a chamber member. A drawing will take place on Jan. 16 at the Oak Harbor Elks Lodge.
