Boys golf: Oak Harbor wins three-team match

The Oak Harbor boys golf team picked up its second straight win Tuesday, April 27, at the Whidbey Golf and Country Club.

The Wildcats finished with a stroke total of 412 to defeat Cascade (449) and Monroe (454).

Judd Ford tied for medalist honors with Cascade’s Anthony Chiarelli with a 73, one over par.

The Wildcats were helped by a season best 80 from Greg Martin. Matt Fikse shot an 84, Jim Nguyen an 85 and Austin Fields a 90.

The match was the final regular season home contest for Oak Harbor.

The ‘Cats will participate in the Everett Invitational Thursday, April 29, at noon at the Legion Memorial Golf Course.

The Wildcats, who are in a three-way tie for third in the Wesco North standings, have one more three-team league match. Arlington leads the North with 15 points after five matches. The winning team in each three-team contest is awarded three points; second earns two and third gets one.

Lake Stevens is second with 13 points, and Marysville-Pilchuck and Snohmish are tied with Oak Harbor with 12. The Wildcats will join Lake Stevens at Marysville for the final match and a battle to finish second in the final standings Wednesday, May 5.

Ford currently leads the individual Wesco North race with 87 points. The medalist earns 18 points in each match; second gets 17, and so forth. Chiarelli is second with 84.

Fikse, in 15th, is the second highest Wildcat with 58.5 points.
