Skagit Community Band Presents “You Can’t Be Serious!,” 7:30 p.m. Feb. 6 at Maple Hall, La Conner; and 3 p.m. Feb. 8 at Brodniak Hall, Anacortes. The Skagit Community Band performs music from the satirical to the sublime. Featured works include Rodger and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma,” “The Mikado Highlights” arranged by Robert Russell Bennett and “Second Prelude” by George Gershwin. On the lighter side, they will perform the music of Peter Schickele’s P.D.Q. Bach. The SCB featured soloist will be flautist Valerie Smith performing “Rhapsody for Flute.” Band members come from all over Whidbey and surrounding areas. WHIDBEY PLAYHOUSE’S “Monty Python’s SPAMALOT” is on stage Feb. 6 through March 1. Shows are at 7:30 p.m. Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays and at 2:30 p.m. Sundays. The musical is lovingly ripped off of “Monty Phython and the Holy Grail.” Show features sumptuous sets and costumes, a chorus line of dancing divas and knights, flatulent Frenchmen, a killer rabbit, and more madcap mirth than a headless knight. The Eighth Annual “ARISTS IN LOVE, WITH LIFE AND EACH OTHER,” is Feb. 4 through March 4 at Raven Rocks Gallery, Greenbank Farm. There will be an opening reception for the show 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 14, at the gallery. Raven Rocks Gallery owners Mary Jo Oxrieder and Windwalker Taibi consider February to be their month, “The Love Month.” It’s a time focused on the joy, passion and fulfillment that love brings to our lives. Coupeville artist and Northwest Coast printmaker ROGER PURDUE (1938-2014) will be featured and introduced to a wider audience at the Stonington Gallery in Seattle. “An Introduction, A Retrospection: Roger Purdue” will run Feb. 5-28 with a public opening reception 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 5, at the Stonington Gallery. Purdue’s family will attend the reception. Purdue, of Tsimshian heritage, produced his art to share with his community and to tell the story of the Northwest Coast native culture. Purdue’s work has been donated and sold locally, including to the Penn Cove Water Festival, the Whidbey Island Beach Watchers and more, but never before to the larder world. The art displayed in Oak Harbor’s CITY HALL for February is the work of advanced placement students under the guidance of teacher Kit Christopherson at Oak Harbor High School. AKEMI WALKER is Penn Cove Gallery’s featured artist for the month of February. Walker, a jewelry designer, will be at the gallery from 10  a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20, to demonstrate her work and methods. Walker’s special love is art clay silver, a mixture of fine silver and organic material, which, when fired, becomes fine silver sculpture pieces. She uses freshwater pearls, semiprecious stones and Baltic amber with sterling silver to finish her designs. Coupeville artist DIANE TOMPKINSON’s piece “Two Crows” was accepted for The Crow Show  exhibition scheduled for February in San Diego. This is her first venture into national exhibitions. Tompkinson is one of 90 artists to be featured in the show.

Artists PHYLLIS and JUDY SKINNER will be showing their work at Christopher’s Restaurant in February. Phyllis enjoys painting the landscapes of the area in watercolors, while Judy captures the lights and darks in her landscapes with pastels.
