Church blesses the peacemakers
The Whidbey community is invited to attend the sixth annual commemoration of the life and nonviolent witness of Martin Luther King, Jr., titled, “Blessed be the Peace Makers.” The service will begin at 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 17, at St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church, 5217 Honeymoon Bay Rd., Freeland.
Prior to the service, beginning at noon, all attendees are invited to partake in a light meal of sandwiches, vegetables, fruit, cookies and beverages. The featured speaker will be The Rev. Carla Robinson, the vicar at All Saints Episcopal located in Seattle’s Rainier Valley district and a member of the African American Committee of the Diocese of Olympia.
Childcare will be provided. Families and youth are encouraged to attend.
Discovering the Kingdom
It is impossible to fulfill Jesus’s command to “follow me” without understanding his message which is the good news of the Kingdom.
The Kingdom provides the framework for understanding the life and ministry of Jesus and all that he bids us do. Signs and wonders, healing, revivals, missions, preaching, teaching and all the ups and downs of the Christian life are tied to understanding the Kingdom.

Young, married, but not parents
A group for young marrieds, not yet parents, meets the first, third, and fifth Monday of the month, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Oak Harbor for the purpose of Christian fellowship and Bible study. For information please call Kirk or Marsha at 675-7664. Spouses of deployed military are welcome.
Christians offer healing room
The Healing Room, 5200 Honeymoon Bay Rd., Freeland, is open every Thursday from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. to anyone desiring personal prayer for physical, emotional, or spiritual needs. A team of Christians from several area churches are dedicated to praying for healing the sick in our community. Reverend talks marriage equality
Rev. Dave Bieniek will speak on marriage equality Sunday, Jan. 16, at 10 a.m. at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation, 20103 Highway 525 north of Freeland. Rev. Bieniek is a part-time chaplain and volunteer coordinator for Whidbey General Hospital’s Home Health Care & Hospice. He is ordained in Metropolitan Community Church and is also affiliated with the Alliance of Baptist Churches.
The offering taken at this service will benefit Whidbey Giving Circle, a community of Island County citizens who pool resources to support LGBTQ equality and young people. All are welcome.
