Take time to do health care right

Open letter to Senators Murray, Cantwell and Congressman Larsen:

You and your colleagues’ goal of a “right” to single payer “free” health care for “all” is far too important an issue to be rushed through the way you all did with the “stimulus” bill — which none of you even read!

My issue with you and the Democratic caucus is that this issue is far too important to be slammed through without due consideration. A thorough and complete debate is essential to preserve and improve what is arguably — even with its faults — the best health care system in the world.

I understand the political implications for you and your party. If you don’t force it through now you may never get a filibuster-proof chance to do it again.

I plead with you to choose the good of the country over the political fortunes of Speaker Pelosi, Majority Leader Reid and President Obama. This thing is simply too important to force a typically half-baked, incomplete disaster down the nation’s throat. The devil is in the details and those usually get added by the bureaucrats after a bill is passed.

You only have to look at Canada, the UK, Cuba, the VA, Medicare and Medicaid to see glaring examples of bankrupting, under-performing systems. You may be able to do better if, and only if, you take the time.

If you are going to do this thing then it is crucial that it be done right. The people of Washington and the United State deserve no less.
