Editor,

Our two dogs have both needed emergency veterinary services this past month from ingesting marijuana tidbits at Double Bluff Beach. Just a small amount of marijuana is toxic to dogs.

Yes, it may seem funny to think of dogs being stoned, but in reality it is a frightening experience, not only for dogs but for their people.

Our English Springers lurched and wobbled, they trembled and drooled, they were incontinent and vomited. We imagined all sorts of terrible scenarios on our way to the vet.

I hope other dog owners who take their dogs to Double Bluff Beach might benefit from knowing that this can happen.

And I would also hope that folks who nibble on a marijuana goody at the beach will not toss their crumbs in the driftwood for keen-scented dogs to find.
