Letter: Trump offers no praise for Putin

Editor,

In response to Nancy Mayer’s letter, Whidbey Times, Saturday, April 2, 2022. Ms. Mayer is right on in the first half of her letter. The Ukrainian people have a right to forge their own destiny. Where she loses it is her diatribe about Donald Trump.

She hopes everyone has noticed that, “Russian TV is talking and singing of their partner, Trump.” Trump, as president, tried not to badmouth world leaders and alienate them. Some of his praise to certain of those was a poor choice. But what Ms. Mayer seems to have missed was the so-called praise was long before Putin invaded the Ukraine. He has offered no praise for Putin since, and has condemned Putin and the invasion.

I would like Ms. Mayer to tell readers what Russian TV stations she is watching that are “talking and singing about their partner Trump.” In case Ms. Mayer missed the election, Trump has not been president for well over a year and has nothing to do with Russia, Russians, the Ukraine or the war. She and democrats talk about Trump having no moral character. She must also have missed the affairs of democrat President John F. Kennedy, or the Oval Office antics of democrat President Bill Clinton.

All presidents have character flaws, amplified by opposite political party and a sycophant media, for political gain. Everything Trump did was constantly opposed by democrats, unmercifully criticized 24/7/365, and the subject of lies, two fabricated impeachments, investigation (the infamous dossier), twisted facts, exaggerations, half-truths and fabrications, to put him in the worse light possible (did I miss anything?).

Loyal democrats still believe it all because he “stole” the election from rightful heir to the presidency, Hillary Clinton. He committed a horrible crime by doing so and must pay. And he did, for all of his presidential term, and democrats, like Ms. Mayer, still won’t let it go. They worry he might run again and she wished he would disappear into the Black Sea.

Donald Trump is not as perfect as Joe Biden. Sure, he abused Tweets, and his big ego was always out there irritating people. But given the complete mess Biden and the democrats have made of our government and country I would take Trump, by comparison, any day. He always put the country and citizens first, something the present administration, and party in power, absolutely does not.
