Editor,
The landline telephone system at the home of two octogenarians, my wife and I, in rural Oak Harbor was inoperable for almost two weeks.
A relative in Alaska, unable to reach us, called another relative at her home in Panama.
Between them, they decided to have a third party visit our home for a visual OK.
The next morning, there was a gentle knock at our door. I responded. It was the county sheriff.
My wife was in the kitchen. After asking a few discrete questions, the sheriff realized all was well and left.
What a splendid service by one of our county officials. We are impressed and grateful.
