Yes, Linda (Letters, June 11), the Class of 2008 did indeed demonstrate ingenuity and teamwork but not restraint in pranking the library facility. While no physical damage was done the restoration cost to all of us Coupeville taxpayers does place this “prank” in the destructive category. The books will not be magically restored to their proper positions without paid adult supervision. For the punishment to truly fit the act the students involved should be accountable for undoing the havoc caused.
Senior week is a very exciting time for these young people. We were there once! I agree we adults should not stifle the enthusiasm of youth as they celebrate this important rite of passage. I do feel strongly, however, that as emerging young adults they must take into account the responsibility that comes from their actions.
There must be better ways to “prank” that are just as much fun.
