I would like to offer my sincere gratitude to the Emergency Room staff at Whidbey General Hospital. My 9 month old son was scheduled for hernia repair at Seattle Children’s Hospital; however, on Sunday, Jan. 23, he developed complications that landed him in the ER at Whidbey General. My husband, a Navy pilot, was away on orders so I had my 2 year old daughter with me. I had never taken a child to the ER prior to that day so I was not sure what to expect.

At check-in, I was warmly welcomed with a smile and was given the best gift of all (patience) as I nervously settled in the chair with my stroller, purse, ID card and two kids. We were ushered right back to the exam area and Dr. Lhamon promptly examined my son. She listened carefully to my concerns and did not make me feel inferior. From there, the staff assisted my kids and me to the X-ray room. My 2 year old daughter was frightened, and the staff went out of their way to make her at ease.

After consulting with the surgical team at Children’s, Dr. Lhamon advised me that we would need to head immediately to Seattle. She kept me informed of the process every step of the way. As we prepared to leave she gave me all the necessary paperwork, directions to the ER at Children’s, and the doctor’s name I should refer to when we arrived there.

My son was admitted to Children’s for surgery that evening. I was taken aback when the staff at Children’s informed me that Dr. Lhamon and her staff had called to check on my son to make sure he was OK. That level of compassion seems almost unheard of these days. Thank you, Dr. Lhamon and Whidbey General.
