On the southern tip of Whidbey Island just west of Possession Beach Waterfront Park, the Dorothy Cleveland Trail meanders up the hill side to the top of Possession Ridge. The land was purchased by the Port of South Whidbey in 1985 and the trail built in 2001.
As you walk along the trail you’ll see bald and golden eagles flying along the forest canopy, a large variety of native birds and many of those pesky squirrel’s we all love. The trail is in excellent condition and has several benches along the way to stop and rest on and take in the wonderful environment.
For the most part the 1.8-mile loop trail is maintained by a group of locals with help from the Possession Beach Waterfront Park caretaker as needed – low maintenance costs and a great trail! 
The Port of South Whidbey commissioners recently decided to sell the trail property because they believe owning the land doesn’t fit under their charter. So after the land is sold the trail will be on private property antherefore closed to the public.
