One truck leaves and another immediately takes its place as construction crews hauled dirt last week from the site of what will be the new Navy Federal Credit Union in Oak Harbor.

Crews pulled down the old two-story brown building between Arby’s and Coldwell Banker Koetje Real Estate on Highway 20 last week in preparation for construction of a new, free-standing Navy Federal building.

“The new building will offer drive-thru service, something our members have missed at our current location,” said Vicki Archer, regional manager for the Northwest region of Navy Federal.

“The addition of the drive thru is going to be a bonus for everyone.”

The physical layout of the new facility may be slightly smaller than the current branch, but Archer said the new configuration will be more efficient.

“They will see some differences, but the different set up will enable us to better service our members,” she said.

While an exact completion date is unknown at this point, Archer said they hope to be moved into the new building by the end of the year.

The present Navy Federal branch opened in 1998 and services nearly 18,000 people in the Oak Harbor area.
