Evelyn R. Fountain, a long-time resident of Coupeville, passed away on March 30, 2018 after a protracted illness. She had recently celebrated her 90th birthday.

Evelyn was born in Greenbank and spent most of her life in Coupeville. She loved gardening, cats, bird-watching, crocheting, quilting and in her younger years, bowling. She was a Navy wife and followed her husband, Al to duty stations in Virginia, Alaska and Hawaii to name a few. Following Al’s retirement they settled in Coupeville. She worked at the Navy Commissary as a cashier for several years and is remembered by many as “the commissary lady.”

Evelyn was an active member of Coupeville United Methodist Church and an active volunteer at the Navy Relief Thrift and Whidbey General Hospital gift shops.

She is survived by her daughter Janet Beebe of Upper Marlboro, M.D.; two granddaughters: Ruth Beebe of Dayton, Ohio and Deanna Beebe of College Park, M.D.; two sisters: Peggy Lall of Olympia and Hazel Riley of Ozawkie, Kan.; one brother: Glen Lanphere of Sedro Woolley and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Wilfred A. Fountain, and two brothers: Benjamin and Robert Lanphere.

Evelyn’s celebration of life service is planned for 11 a.m., May 5 at Coupeville United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the WhidbeyHealth Foundation, WAIF or the Alzheimers Association.
