Man accused of voyeurism in Walmart bathroom

An Oak Harbor man was arrested for allegedly masturbating while looking at a girl in the Walmart women’s bathroom, according to a police report.

Sean G. Kelley, 22, made a preliminary appearance in Island County Superior Court Monday. Judge Alan Hancock found probable cause to believe Kelley committed the crime of voyeurism.

Deputy Prosecutor Ian Michels-Slettvet noted that alcohol use was a common denominator in the current case, as well as in two prior convictions and two other pending cases against Kelley. He asked that Kelley be held on $10,000 bail; Hancock agreed.

On Feb. 10, an employee at Walmart reported that a witness saw a man standing on a toilet in a stall in the women’s room. The employee said she looked into the stall and saw that the man was masturbating while peeking into the occupied stall next to him, according to the police report.

Kelley was allegedly looking at a 14-year-old girl, the police report indicates.

The employee knocked on the door and ordered the man out. She said the man “said something about being in the bathroom because he was ‘gender specific.’” She escorted him out of the bathroom, but he refused to wait for police to arrive and left the store.

The Walmart employee identified Kelley from a photo line-up, the report states.

According to police, Kelley was contacted by police numerous times in the days before the Walmart incident and was intoxicated each time. He was caught drinking vodka at Wendy’s restaurant when he was arrested on the voyeurism charge.

Sean Kelley appears in Island County Superior Court with his attorney Feb. 12. He’s accused of voyeurism at the Oak Harbor Walmart.
