We in Island County have the opportunity to choose an assessor who is highly trained, professional, and personable. His name is Dave Mattens. I am impressed by Dave’s experience and training. He has 25 years’ combined service in the U.S. Navy and NOAA. He earned a BS in engineering and has further training in Microcomputer Systems and Database Management. To all of this, he is adding courses in real estate and residential appraising.

I am even more impressed with the way in which Dave Mattens works with people. I have personally observed him as he interacts with and directs volunteers. His style is friendly, encouraging, and efficient. He gets the job done with everyone feeling part of the team.

In our assessor’s office, we need this combination of technical training, management experience, and the ability to work with staff and the public in a fair and friendly way.
