Prosecutor: Some employees support Banks

I work in the Prosecutor’s Office. I am tired of hearing about the deputy prosecutor’s labor union which endorsed Steve Selby. That union, at the time the vote was taken, consisted of five members. One recently resigned to go work in Seattle. There are now only four members of the union who participated in that vote out of a staff of seven deputy prosecutors and eight non-lawyer support staff. Those four members do not speak for the other 11 employees. When Steve Selby says the whole office supports him, it is not even close to true.

Many of us have tried to do what Greg Banks asked, and simply do our jobs and leave the politics at home. Some of us have remained silent because we are afraid that if Mr. Selby is elected, we will face swift retaliation. I can’t stand by any longer.

It has been very hard to work as a team when anonymous employees are badmouthing Greg Banks in the media, and we have become the county’s favorite soap opera. It has been heartbreaking to watch what was a great collegial office get torn apart by this political campaign. I think it is important for the public to know that there are hard-working employees in the office who believe Greg Banks is the best candidate and is a pleasure to work for.
