Vest named defensive MVP

He may stand only 5-9 and weigh 165 pounds, but Oak Habor’s Gabe Vest came up one of the largest players in the annual 3A/4A East-West all-star football game in Everett over the weekend.

Vest, a 2006 OHHS graduate, was named most valuable defensive player for the game.

He recorded 10 tackles, four of which were solo, and had one interception while playing outside linebacker. He was a key factor to the West picking up a 17-0 victory and holding an explosive East squad to just 224 yards and 12 first downs.

Vest was the fifth Wildcat player in the last four years to take part in the prestigous game.

During the regular season Vest had 66 tackles, one interception, two fumble recoveries and one sack. He also rushed 147 times for 1,080 yards and had a team-high 26 touchdowns.

Vest will continue his career in the fall in Arizona at Scottsdale Community College.
