Oak Harbor’s Skagit Valley College campus is on a four-day work week until Aug. 31, the result of a directive handed down from college officials as a cost-saving measure.

All business at the college is being conducted Mondays through Thursdays from 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Staff is working four 10-hour days per week, leaving the campus closed and empty on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

The summer quarter class schedule is not affected by the change.

“Budget. The utilities (cost), and the state mandate from the governor that we need to cut costs,” said Sherry Walker, administrative assistant to the vice president of the Whidbey Island Campus, explaining the reasoning behind the decision.

The summer work schedule took effect July 1.

Staff will resume the normal five-day work week Sept. 2, in time to gear up for the start of the fall quarter, which begins on Sept. 18. The annual schedule for the coming year is available now and the college is accepting registrations at this time. Fall schedule booklets will be available on campus beginning Aug. 8 and will be mailed to homes shortly thereafter.
