We have watched with dismay the hammer-lock held on Island County government by the powerful, pro-development, big-money interests, at the expense of taxpayers and citizens, and especially at the expense of our natural environment. Have we forgotten that a healthy, natural environment is our county’s most precious economic and lifestyle asset? Isn’t it the reason we all live here? Isn’t it the reason visitors are attracted to our islands, its lodgings, restaurants and shops?

Do we want to sit back while the incumbent creates another Lynnwood on these islands?

Angie Homola’s astounding showing in the August primary proves islanders are hungry for change and can finally topple the 16-year incumbent commissioner of District 2. If Angie is elected, she will be the first woman to serve on this board in the county’s 150-year history.

Homola is an Oak Harbor businesswoman, architect and community leader with no political baggage or big-money cronies. She jumped into the county commissioner race at the last minute after growing disillusioned with the lack of balance and public accountability in county government.
