Ahlstrom Archie

A memorial service for Archie J. Ahlstrom will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, July 27, at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Carol Harlacher officiating. A private family graveside service will follow at 3:30 p.m., at Sunnyside Cemetery, Coupeville. Arrangements are entrusted to Burley Funeral Chapel.

Archie J. Ahlstrom died July 21, 2002, at Whidbey General Hospital of heart failure. He was born to Idolf and Anna Ahlstrom on Dec. 15, 1910, in Seattle.

He was employed for 26 years in civil service at various places including Bureau of Reclamation, Seattle Corps of Engineers, Mississippi River Commission, Panama Canal, U.S. Navy at Kodiak, Alaska and Whidbey Island Naval Station where he retired. He worked three years as Island County planner then as an assistant port engineer at Olympia from 1967 1976. He retired and returned to Coupeville.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of 56 years; daughters Karin, Kirsten and Kathy, and sons Harlow, Michael and Ken; 15 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Marie.

He was known for his great smile and sense of humor.
