Alex Ludwick died peacefully at home on Easter Sunday, April 24, 2011, surrounded by his wife and all his children. Born March 25, 1920 in Calgary, Alberta, he lived five years in England as a child and another four years there while serving in the RCAF during World War II. At 17 he got a job as a surveyor for logging in British Columbia. In 1964 he moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, where he worked his way up to senior management at the pulp mill. Always an active member of his community, he served in the United Church of Canada and later in the Presbyterian Church in Alaska and Washington as well as in service organizations including Rotary. He retired to Oak Harbor in 1985 where he spent many happy hours gardening.
He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Dorothy of West Seattle; brother Roger Lewis (Elsie); son William Ludwick of Peru; five daughters, Patricia Ludwick of Gabriola Island, Canada, Carol Taylor (James) of Ketchikan, Alaska, Nora Ervolino of Stuart, Fla., Kathy Ludwick (Dan Callan) of West Seattle, and Julie Ludwick (Ken Pierson) of New York City; six grandchildren, Ken and Randall Taylor, Gregory Elgie, Jessie and Sam Ervolino and Zander Pierson; two great-grandchildren, James and Nicholas Taylor; and nieces and nephews in B.C. and Washington.
