Nate Miller, son of Clay and Bev Miller of Coupeville, was awarded Boy Scouting’s highest honor Saturday when he received his Eagle Scout rank. Miller attends Oak Harbor High School where he will be starting his junior year.

He has been in scouting since the first grade and is currently a member of another scouting program, the Police Explorers Post in Oak Harbor. Miller hopes to become a law enforcement officer after graduation.

His Eagle Scout community service project was overseen by the Fort Ebey Ranger. Miller coordinated over 30 boys and adults as they installed new safety rails along the Bluff Trail and then cut in a new trail near Lake Pondilla to the beach, replacing the old one which had eroded over the bluff.

An Eagle Scout must earn at least 21 merit badges in addition to hundreds of other requirements. Approximately 60 people attended his ceremony held at the Au Sable Institute.

Miller is a member of Coupeville’s Historic Troop 4058, which has been sponsored by the Coupeville Lions Club since just after WWII.
