Letter: Mayor supported fundraiser for homeless coalition

Editor,

The Whidbey Homeless Coalition extends its deepest appreciation to Mayor Wright for his extraordinary generosity and support during our inaugural Art and Elegance Gala. His personal donation of all food, beverages and event essentials made it possible for every dollar raised to go directly toward services for individuals experiencing homelessness across Island County. The gala received strong support from Island County commissioners and state Rep. Dave Paul.

The gala raised more than $25,000 to support programs such as The Haven and the House of Hope. Mayor Wright’s steady encouragement and involvement set the tone for the evening and demonstrated a level of personal commitment that moved guests, volunteers and community partners.

“This is about doing the work,” Mayor Wright said during the event. “I hear concerns from our community, and I know that addressing homelessness requires partnership and real investment. Supporting events like this is one way we can come together to make a difference.”

The Coalition offers its heartfelt thanks to Therese Kingsbury, whose vision brought the tablescaping idea to life and whose dedication supported every aspect of the gala. We extend our deep appreciation to the eight remarkable women who introduced tablescaping to Whidbey Island. Their creations were beyond imagination. Thank you to: Cynthia Mason, Marilyn Sherman Clay, Nancy Arend, Myra Platt, Therese Kingsbury, Karen Koschek, Bobbi Lornson, and Loretta Martin.
