Wrestling: Fremd leads OHHS girls with sub-regional title

Oak Harbor placed sixth out of 15 teams that scored with 40 points; Mount Baker won with 366.

Fremd, who qualified for the state meet last year, won the 140-pound class. Teammate Bailey Martinez wrestled in the same classification and finished third.

Oak Harbor’s other wrestlers, Brittney Peppel (103) and Kylene Ayer (112), did not place.

After a bye, Fremd, the No. 1 seed, pinned Martinez and then pinned Lacy Cannon of Mount Baker for the title.

Martinez, the No. 4 seed, won 6-5 before meeting Fremd. In the consolation bracket, Martinez won 4-0 and by a pin to nab third.

Peppel twice lost by falls, and Ayer lost 10-2 and by a pin.

Fremd and Martinez qualified for this weekend’s regional tournament in Sedro-Woolley.
