Coupeville High School picked up its first win of the volleyball regular season with a 3-1 victory over visiting Chimacum Thursday, Oct. 16.

The Wolves evened their conference record at 1-1 (1-7 overall) and will entertain Port Townsend (0-2, 5-4) at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, on “Dig Pink Night,” a cancer awareness event. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of the event.

Coupeville trimmed the Cowboys 25-10, 15-25, 25-23, 25-18.

First-year coach Breanne Smedley also earned her first win with the victory.

“This is a win they can feel good about,” she said.

“We competed well and did a really good job of executing. We were able to get our offense up and going. Our passing, especially serve receive, was better.

“This will give us more confidence as we head into league play.”

With its offense revved up, the Wolves received 11 kills from Hailey Hammer, eight from Madeline Strasburg and seven from Kacie Kiel. Hammer had just two hitting errors and a sparkling .391 kill rate.

Hammer also served three aces; Valen Trujillo had four.

Lauren Rose guided the offense with 22 assists.

Defensively, Trujillo recorded 26 digs, while Strasburg and Kiel had 12 each.
