Wildcats top Everett on Senior Night / Swim and dive

Oak Harbor wins all but two events in a one-sided swim victory in the final home meet of the season.

The Oak Harbor High School swim and dive team closed out its home season by celebrating Senior Night and whipping Everett 110-69 at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool Monday, Oct. 10.

The Wildcats won 10 of 12 events while upping their record to 8-1.

Oak Harbor closes out the regular season at unbeaten Lake Stevens (6-0) at 3:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20.

Olivia Tungate, Molly Vagt and Taliah Black each won two individual events and swam on two winning relay teams in the win over Everett (2-9).

Tungate won the 200-meter freestyle (2:19.57) and 100 backstroke (1:11.43), Vagt captured the 100 butterfly (1:08.72) and 400 free (4:51.37) and Black took the 200 individually medley (2:45.37) and 100 breaststroke (1:21.98).

They teamed up with Jillian Pape to win the 200 medley relay (2:13.59) and 200 free relay (1:59.44).

Maya Krantz (50 free, 34.4) and Erica Sugatan (100 free, 1:09.45) also picked up firsts for Oak Harbor.

Third: Garcia, 200 IM, 2:59.51; Dennen, 400 free, 6:27.71; 200 medley relay (Empinado, Maddy Harstad, Chargualaf, Dennen), 2:40.95.

Fourth: Caitlin Woodworth, diving, 83; Empinado, 100 free, 1:15.25; 200 free relay (Sugatan, Krantz, Garcia, Johnston), 2:30.76.

Fifth: Kelly Gruenwald, diving, 13.38; 200 free relay (Harstad, Woodworth, Maggie Jappert, Noelle Ruiz), 2:36.39.

Sixth: Mekayla VonGrey, 200 free, 3:09.07.

Oak Harbor coach Jenny Butler said there were a few mistakes in the printed results, noting Krantz, Harstad, Empinado and Jenna Flores all placed in the 100 breaststroke or the 100 backstroke but were not listed. Those corrections (the exact finishes) were not submitted by press time.

Seniors honored Monday night were Sugatan, Krantz, Kayla Roy, Wendy Martinez, Vagt, Woodworth, Meredith Bain, Harstad, Katy Lins, Dennen (who also played the trumpet for our national anthem), Johnston and German exchange student Alexandra Tsingas.
