Wildcats make mark at early season track meets

Oak Harbor had multiple athletes place in sprints, middle-distance, long jump and triple jump.

Oak Harbor’s boys and girls track teams had strong showings in their first three meets of the season. According to results posted at Athletic.net, the Wildcats had multiple athletes place in sprints and middle-distance events as well as the long jump and triple jump.

Track coach Jay Turner couldn’t be reached to comment about the early-season performance of the track team.

Oak Harbor at Mount Vernon

Oak Harbor recent meet March 27 at Mount Vernon saw the boys team come up short against the Bulldogs while the girls team came out on top.

Carson Lang place first in the 100-meters running 12.35 while Taiis Hardin placed second running 12.42.

The 200-meters saw the Wildcats place in the top three – Jayden Boyles ran 23.23, Xander Leiss ran 24.32 and Alejandro Gueits ran 24.41.

Boyles placed second in the 400-meters running 52.67.

Jeroam Wood-Pina placed first in the 800-meters running 2:22, Joshua Haynes was second running 2:23 and Lucas Gruenwald was third running 2:25.

Isaac Kitchen placed first in the 110-meter hurdles running 18.19 and Andrew Vesco placed second running 19.77. Kitchen also placed first in the 300-meter hurdles running 44.14.

Kitchen, Xander Leiss, Andrew Vesco and Daniel Lillard teamed together and placed second in the 4×400-meter relay running 3:56.88.

Dylan Comly placed first in the high jump.

Michael Johnson-Howard placed first in the long jump with a mark of 19 foot, one inch and first in the triple jump with a mark of 39’2.25.

Oak Harbor’s Addison Boyer placed first in the 200-meters running 26.64.

The Wildcats placed in the top three in the 400-meters. Audrey Hart ran 1:01, Mia McGaha ran 1:05 and Emu Orgil ran 1:14.

Carly Vangiesen placed first in the 800-meters running 2:39. Sonja Edmondson placed first in the 3,200-meters running 14:27 and Hannah Bassett placed second running 14:30.

Brianna Richard and Calleigh Boyer respectively placed first and second in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles.

Boyer, Hart, Vangiesen and Richard placed first in the 400-meter relay running 4:18.66.

Daisey Lemley placed first in the shot put throwing 33 feet 2.5 inches. She also placed first in the discus throwing 116 feet 5 inches. Henrietta Atonio placed second throwing 81 feet 8 inches and Olivia Hudson placed third throwing 77 feet 9 inches.

Lilly Grubbs placed first in the javelin throwing 98 feet 10 inches. Lemly placed first in the high jump while Alisha Jones and McGaha tied for second. Natalie Chadduch placed first in the pole vault and Jasmine Phillips placed first in the long jump.

Bedlington Invite March 22

Oak Harbor’s boys and girls track teams traveled to Lynden Christian to participate in the Bedlington Twilight in a track meet with seven other Northwest Conference Schools. The boys and girls teams each placed third in the meet.

Boyles placed second in the 100-meters running 11.41 and second in the 200-meters running 22.46.

Kitchen placed third in the 300-meter hurdles running 44.75.

Boyles, Wollard, Leiss, and Kitchen placed third in the 4×400-meters relay running 3:36.81.

Carson Lang placed third in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet 2.5 inches. Johnson-Howard placed first in the triple jump with a mark of 39 feet 2.75 inches.

For the girls, Boyer placed third in the 100-meters running 13.19 and first in the 200-meters running 26.51.

Hart placed second in the 400-meters running 1:00.48.

Richard placed third in the 100-meter hurdles running 17.24 and second in the 300-meter hurdles running 50.04.

Payton Champignon, Richard, Phillips and Boyer placed first in the 4×100-meter relay running 51.51.

Boyer, Hart, Champignon and Phillips placed second in the 4×200-meter relay running 1:48.14.

Lemley placed second in the shot put throwing 34 feet 3 inches and first in the discus throwing 119 feet 5 inches. Grubbs placed first in the javelin throwing 108 feet 3 inches and Lemley placed first in the high jump with a mark of 4 feet 6 inches.

Oak Harbor hosts Lynden

The Wildcats kicked off their season March 13 hosting Lynden, where the girls team came out on top while the boys team finished short.

For the boys, Boyles placed first in the 100-meters running 11.02 and Gueits placed second running 11.45.

In the 200-meters, Boyles placed first running 22.53, Gueits placed second running 23.99 and Leiss placed third running 24.41. Boyles also placed first in the 400-meters running 54.84.

Woods-Pina placed third in the 800-meters running 2;19.16. and Lucas Gruenwald placed third in the 1,600-meters running 5:05.82. Greunwald won the 3,200-meters running 11:00.58 and Cade Carlson placed third running 11:36.52.

Kitchen won both hurdling events running 18.51 in the 110-meters and 44.94 in the 300-meters. Andrew Vesco placed third in the 110-meter hurdles.

Gueits, Boyles, Willard and Johnson-Howard won the 4×100-meter relay running 44.04.

Comly won the high jump with the mark of 5 feet 10 inches and Xavier Ochoa placed second with a mark of 5 feet 6 inches.

Johnson-Howard won both the long jump (19 feet 11 inches) and the triple jump (40 feet 10 inches).

Hardin placed second in the long jump with a mark of 18 feet 10.25 inches.

For the girls, Boyer placed first in the 200-meters running 26.78 and second in the 100-meters running 28.57. Richard placed third in the 200-meters with a time of 28.57.

Hart won the 400-meters running 1:00.36 and Kiley Crownholm placed second in the 1,600-meters running 6:15.60.

Oak Harbor placed in the top three in the 3,200 meters with Claire Paul running 14:40, Kennedy Carlson running 15:23 and Sonja Edmondson running 15:27.

Richard won both the 100-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles.

In the 4×100-meter relay, Richard, Adriana Lawrence, Phillips and Boyer placed first running 52.1.

Hemley won both the shot put, discus and high jump while Grubbs placed first in javelin.

The track season continues April 6 when the Wildcats travels to Bellingham to compete in the Birger Solberg Invitational where 39 schools are competing.
