The Oak Harbor soccer team broke into the win column in thrilling fashion, tripping visiting Mountlake Terrace 3-2 in overtime Wednesday, April 18.

With a minute-and-a-half left in the first overtime, Ben McCornack headed in the game winner off a corner kick from Gavin Stewart to finish off the Hawks (4-7-1).

Alex Krantz, with an assist from Vance Freitas, scored Oak Harbor’s first goal. Matt Jensen, assisted by Dakota Powers, netted the second.

Wildcat coach Brian Thompson said, “The players all stepped up and played the game I’ve always known they could.

“If I had to choose a player who I thought really changed this game it would be hard to do. Vance Freitas was amazing, Tommy Murphy and Ben McCornack, who usually share time with others players, each had an exceptional game along with the rest of the team.”

Keeper Kevin Silveira anchored the defense with eight saves.

Oak Harbor (1-9-1) travels to Marysville Getchell (6-3-2) Friday, April 20, and then plays Lynnwood (6-4-2) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.
