Can’t blame Oak Harbor baseball coach Tyson VanDam if he experienced a sense of déjà vu in his club’s 11-8 win at Lynnwood Wednesday, April 18.

For the second consecutive day, Lynnwood (4-6, 5-9) rallied late against Oak Harbor; this time, however, the comeback fell short. The Royals, down 7-4 in the sixth inning Tuesday, scored four to win 8-4.

Wednesday Oak Harbor appeared to be in total control, leading 10-0 going into the fifth. Oak Harbor pitcher Andrew Snavely allowed only four base runners over the first four innings, then the Royals used five hits (including two doubles and a triple), a walk and error to trim the gab to 10-7.

An inning later they added another run on a walk, hit and error to further cut into the lead.

Oak Harbor withstood the comeback because of its early offensive explosion and an 18-hit day. Much of the damage was done by part-time starter Cory Cameron batting in the nine spot. Cameron finished 3-for-4 with four RBI.

The Wildcats took the lead with a three-run second. Sam Glavick singled and scored on Austyn Walker’s double. Snavely walked, then Cameron swatted a two-run single.

Oak Harbor added six runs in the third. Singles by Jack Richter and Glavick and a hit batter (Walker) loaded the bases. Nate Stanford singled in two runs, then a third scored on an error off the bat of Snavely.

Anthony Stewart, Cameron and Grant Schroeder followed with RBI singles.

In the fourth, Stanford singled and scored on Cameron’s infield hit.

In the seventh, Schroeder singled and scored on Richter’s double.

Richter went 4-for-5 with two RBI. Schroeder rapped three hits, and Walker, Glavick and Stanford had two each.

Oak Harbor (5-7, 7-8) sits in sixth place in the conference standings and currently holds the final playoff spot. It goes to first-place Meadowdale (8-2, 8-5) at 4 p.m. Friday, April 20, and then hosts the Mavericks at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 24.

Its following series with Glacier Peak (6-4, 8-6) will wrap up the regular season.
