The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team finished fourth in the district tournament Monday, May 18, at Marysville’s Battle Creek Golf Course and has five players in the hunt for a berth in the state tournament.

The second, and final day, of the district tournament begins at noon Tuesday, May 19.

The first day of the tournament determined the team champion.

The top 36 individuals move on to a second day of competition to determine which 17 qualify for the state finals.

Stanwood won the 13-team district title with 408 strokes. Meadowdale (416), Ferndale (427), Oak Harbor (431) and Arlington (433) rounded out the top five.

Stanwood’s Chase Anderson led the individual standings after the first day with a 75.

Oak Harbor’s Mason Dieter sits fifth with a 79. Teammates Steven Timm (86), Raiden Poe (87), Ben Fikse (89) and Aaron Kelley (90) all made the cut, which was 92.

Nick Whitley shot a 105.

Poe is the only Wildcat currently among the top 17, the state qualifiers; however, all the others are within striking distance. The 17th best score Monday was an 85.

“Mason shot a great round,” Oak Harbor coach David Smith said. “He didn’t have any double bogies or worse and just six bogies. He really kept it steady and focused.

“Steven and Raiden are sitting right around what we think will be the cut line for state. I know they can shoot better today.”

“Ben and Aaron both kept it low enough to make the cut but will need to step it up today if they want to go onto state. I think they have it in them. Ben had three birdies yesterday, but had a few double bogies too.”

The state tournament is at Kennewick’s Canyon Lake Golf Course May 27 and 28.

Also, the all-conference awards were announced, and Poe earned first-team, all-Wesco North honors. Dieter and Timm were second-team selections.
