Alex Laiblin also earned a return trip to state by placing second in the girls 3,200 (11:11.54), and Devroe helped the boys 4×400 relay team take a surprising second to secure a state berth.

The 4×400 team of Devroe, Josiah Welch, Sebastian Ceaser and Carlton Johnson ran the fifth-best time in the preliminaries but shaved more than five seconds off that time to nab second in the finals in 3:26.55.

The top three in each event at district earned state spots.

Devroe won the 400 meters in 50.13.

Rodeheffer defended is 3,200 title by clocking a 9:26.38. Wednesday, he finished second in the 1,600 (4:24.96) and will compete in that event in state as well.

Last spring at state, Rodeheffer and Laiblin each placed sixth in their respective 3,200 finals. Rodeheffer was also 11th in the 1,600.

Two Wildcat girls just missed qualifying for state. Taylor Deconzo (javelin, 110-05) and Hayley Lundstrom (high jump, 4-10) each finished fourth.

In team scoring, both the Oak Harbor boys and girls placed ninth in the 11-team field.

The boys scored 42 points in the meet won by Marysville-Pilchuck (101). Mountlake Terrace was the winner to the girls meet with 145 points; Oak Harbor finished with 40.5.

The state meet is Thursday through Saturday, May 29-31, at Tacoma’s Mount Tahoma High School.
