Winning its fifth straight meet to start the season, the 4A Lake Stevens High School swim team defeated Oak Harbor 124-49 Monday, Dec. 14, at John Vanderzicht Pool.

Joe Gorman collected the Wildcats’ lone win, taking the 200-meter freestyle in a season-best 2:13.94. He also clocked his best time of the year in the 400 free while placing second in 4:50.94.

Eric Jensen collected two second-places for Oak Harbor (200 individual medley, 2:42.78; 100 butterfly, 1:09.4), and Logan Clark was second in the 100 free (1:06.89).

Gorman, Jensen, Clark and Cole McCaslin placed second in the 200 free relay (1:57.38).

With little depth this year (only 13 swimmers suited up Monday), Oak Harbor coach Erin Bull said winning meets will be difficult, but the goal is to still qualify as many individuals as possible for district and state.

Much of the squad is new this year, and it is “pretty awesome,” to see each improve and cut time each meet, Bull said.

For the new swimmers, “it’s all about personal bests” and finding the best events for each, she said. The rookies are also working hard to land spots on the varsity relay teams, Bull added.

Oak Harbor (1-3) faces another tough 4A team when it goes to Jackson at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 17.
