Using an 8-0 run late in the game, the Meadowdale High School girls basketball team slipped by Oak Harbor 55-44 Monday, Dec. 14, in Lynnwood.

Oak Harbor trailed most of the game but trimmed the Mavericks’ lead to only two midway through the final period, but Meadowdale responded with eight straight points to wrap up the non-conference win.

“We played well but couldn’t find our defensive groove,” Oak Harbor coach Jon Atkins said.

Five different Wildcats scored in the first quarter, including three-balls from Bryn Langrock and Deja Bunch, but Oak Harbor still trailed 15-12 as Meadowdale’s Eva Taylor hit two three-point shots and scored eight points.

The Mavericks upped their lead to 27-21 at halftime.

Although Bunch scored eight points in the third quarter, Oak Harbor couldn’t cut into Meadowdale’s lead and still trailed by six, 42-36, going into the final frame.

Bunch and Julie Jansen finished with 12 points each, and Langrock added 11. Janae Payne and AnnaBelle Whitefoot scored four apiece.

Taylor and Selina Tekle scored 14 points for the Mavericks (2-4).

Oak Harbor (2-4) hosts Ferndale (1-3) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Dec. 18.
