Stone earns league MVP honors / College basketball

Coupeville High School graduate Makana Stone, a senior at Whitman College, was named the Northwest Conference’s Player of the Year in women’s basketball Feb. 25.

Stone led the Blues to the regular-season championship with a 15-1 record. The Walla Walla school is 23-2 overall and ranked seventh nationally in D-III.

So far this season, Stone has collected 398 points, 216 rebounds, 36 assists, 25 steals and 25 blocks.

She was also a first-team, all-league selection as a sophomore and junior.

The Blues open the league tournament at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 27, at home against the University of Puget Sound (7-9, 13-12).
