Sophomore Makana Stone lowered her Coupeville High School record in the 400 meters at the 19-team Bellevue Christian School Invitational track meet at Juanita High School in Kirkland Saturday, May 3.

Stone became the first Wolf girl to break one minute in the 400, winning Saturday’s race in 59.75 and breaking her record of 60.27 set earlier this spring.

She also placed second in the 200 in 27.58.

The 400 time is the second best among 1A Washington runners this year. Maya Jackson of Northwest leads the pack with a 58.71.

In team scoring, Coupeville finished 11th in the girls meet with 26 points; Montesano won with 96.5.

Chelan took the boys title with 99.5 points; Coupeville was 12th with 20.5.

Coupeville earned 14 other top-10 finishes in the meet, three by sophomore Jared Helmstadter (fourth, 400, 56.38; sixth, 200, 25.31; and 10th, 100, 12.45).

Other best efforts by the Wolves were fourths by senior Brandon Kelley (300 hurdles, 47.04) and freshman Skyler Lawrence (shot put, 29-11).

The Cascade Conference championship meet is 4 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at King’s.

Seventh, boys: Dalton Martin, discus, 112-05.

Eighth, girls: Carlie Rosenkrance, 800, 2:42.

Ninth, girls: Rosenkrance, 100 hurdles, 19.68; Grove, long jump, 13-11.5.

10th, girls: Marisa Etzell, 100, 14.05; Heni Barnes, discus, 80-11.
