Register now for S.W.I.S.H

The Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting team registrations for the 2009 boys S.W.I.S.H. (Skagit, Whatcom, Island, Snohomish Hoops) basketball league.

The league consists of divisions for fourth/fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth-grade boys with different levels of play in each age division.

Games will begin on Saturday, Jan. 10, with games played in Mount Vernon and Sedro-Woolley.

The team entry fee is $460 and includes an 11-game guarantee.

Jingle along the trails

The inaugural running of the Jingle Trail Fun Run is schedules for Saturday, Dec. 6, at Fort Ebey State Park beginning at 10 a.m.

Hosted by the Central Whidbey Chamber of Commerce, the event will feature a 5K run along with a mile run on trails including Bluff Trail, Cedar Hollow, Raider Creek and Kyles Kettle.

Runners will be divided into categories ranging from youth ages 9 and under, to seniors ages 55 and over.

The mail-in entry deadline is Nov. 21 and registration begins at 9 a.m. the day of the race

Entry fees are $20 if pre-registered, which includes a T-shirt, or $10 without a T-shirt.

On the day of the race, the entry fee will be $15 without a T-shirt.

Youths ages 9 and under and seniors 70 and older may enter free of charge.

Everyone is invited to come out and join the fun.

Boys masters basketball

The Skagit County Parks and Recreation Department is accepting registrations for the Boys Masters Basketball League for high school boys that are not on a high school basketball team.

Games will be played on Sunday afternoons at Skagit Valley College starting Dec. 21.

Separate divisions of play offered for ninth/tenth graders and eleventh/twelveth-graders.

The team entry fee is $360 and is due by Monday, Dec. 8.

Each team is required to have same color and numbered jerseys, as well as an adult coach, 21 years or older, on the bench for each game.

Shoot to win a turkey

The Central Whidbey Sportsmen’s Association is hosting its annual Presidents Benefit Turkey Shoot from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at the clubhouse two and a half miles south of Coupeville on Safari Street just off Highway 20 and Morris Road.

The event is open to everyone and proceeds will go to a local benefit organization on Whidbey Island.

Tickets are $1.50 for each event or four for $5 and you can enter as many events as you like, one or all.

A one bird limit per individual will be in effect.

Events include six shots as a large bull’s-eye target from 25 yards with any iron-sighted pistol or revolver. Best six shots count.

Briquette shoot from 10 yards with any iron-sighted pistol or revolver. Break the most briquettes without hitting the tube.

Shotgun at a turkey target from 25 yards. Two shots with the most pellets in the white center wins.

Jug head at 25 yards. Six shots with any pistol or revolver with iron sights. Most rounds in bottle without hitting the jug head wins.

Rifle shoot. Five rounds at 50 yards at a bull’s-eye target using a .22 caliber rimfire with any sights.

Shooters ages 12 and under will shoot in a junior class.
