Soccer, roller hockey programs
The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is offering an eight week Kidz Love Soccer school beginning Sept. 27.
Classes include parent/child through age 12.
The fee is $60 and shin guards are required.
Classes meet every Saturday through Nov. 15.

The North Whidbey Park and Recreation District is also seeking volunteers to assist with the development of a new roller hockey program in Oak Harbor.
The district has recently received permission to develop a rink on school district property near the chamber of commerce building.
Equipment has also been purchased to be able to start an instructional program.

Holmes Harbor guns shown
The Holmes Harbor Rod and Gun Club is hosting its annual gun and sportsmans’ sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, in the club’s trophy room, 3334 Brooks Hill Rd. in Langley.
Among the items available at the sale are firearms of all types, ammunition, shooting supplies, knives, optics, reloading gear and much more.
Admission is free to rod and gun club members and by $1 donation for the rest of the public.
Those having items to sell may rent a table for $10 ($15 for non-members), or you can place items on a consignment table for a small fee.
Space is available outside the club for boats, trailers and any other large items for a $5 fee.
Food is available at the club and the trap, skeet and sporting clay ranges will be open for those who want to make a day of it.

Fall tryouts for NWAC
The North Whidbey Aquatic Club (NWAC) is holding free tryouts during the month of September.
Those interested in becoming a club member can attend on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from 4:45 to 5:30 p.m. at John Vanderzicht Memorial Pool.
Minimum requirements are the ability to swim 25 meters in freestyle and backstroke.
The emphasis of the NWAC is on skill acquisition, physical fitness and fun in a safe, professionally coached environment. Swimmers from 6 to 18 are welcome and the first two weeks are free.

Youth/senior pheasant hunts
A youth pheasant hunt for those licensed hunters under the age of 16 will be held Sept. 20 and 21 commencing at 8 a.m. each day at the Arnold Farm release site south of Oak Harbor. Young hunters wanting to participate should be accompanied by an adult age 18 or older.
A limited number of experienced mentor hunters with dogs will be available to accompany youth hunters who do not have an adult with them.

A senior, age 65 and older, pheasant hunt will be held Sept. 22 through 26 also at Arnold Farm commencing at 8 a.m. each day.
To get to the Arnold Farm release site, take Highway 20 east out of Oak Harbor about 3.5 miles to Arnold Road and then take Arnold Road .6 miles to Zylstra Road. The release site is approximately .5 miles and the parking area is on the right.
The general pheasant season begins at 8 a.m. Sept. 27 at the following Whidbey Island release sites: Arnold Farm, including a small site about a quarter mile east of the Arnold Farm release site on Zylstra Road, Bayview, Ebey’s Prairie, and three NAS Whidbey Island sites which are OLF Coupeville and the Upper and Lower Game Ranges on the Sea Plane Base.
The NAS sites require special hunting permits which can be obtained by both civilian and military hunters at the hunting registration meeting at the NAS Gallery Golf Course on Golf Course Road in Oak Harbor between 5:30 and 6:30 p.m. Sept. 24. Prospective hunters must present a DOD or state-issued photo identification, a Washington small game license and pheasant (odd/even) permit.
There is an $11 fee. No licenses will be available at these registration meeting.
