Sports aren’t always fair and the Oak Harbor girls soccer team found that out when it dominated the match with visiting Mountlake Terrace only to lose in a shootout Thursday, Sept. 23.

After a scoreless regulation and two overtimes, the Hawks hit their first three shots in the shootout while Oak Harbor missed all three; that gave Mountlake Terrace the Wesco 3A win.

The Wildcats dominated the match while constantly controlling the ball throughout regulation. However, they couldn’t convert on several shot opportunities.

Terrace rarely had the ball, but when they did they created several excellent scoring chances but were turned away by Wildcat keeper Jordan Boucher.

Coach Jeff Laiblin said the match “was a little frustrating.” He said his club has had trouble generating offense: “Eventually the shots will go in.”

Overall he said his team played well and singled out the efforts of sophomore Sarah Young, “who was phenomenal.”

Laiblin said that four key players are missing because of academic issues and injuries and they should start coming back next week. He said, “We will only get better. They will give us depth.”

The Wildcats travel to Shorewood Tuesday, Sept. 28, and host Everett Thursday, Sept. 30, at 7:30 p.m.
