The Oak Harbor High School girls basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a historical event Friday, Dec. 12.

Emily Yost of visiting Mount Baker scored a school record 46 points to lead the Mountaineers to a 77-39 win over Oak Harbor.

The Wildcats also lost at home Saturday, falling to Anacortes 41-23.

Yost hit 20 of 24 shots and broke her own school record of 39 points to help Mount Baker improve to 5-1.

The 46 points wasn’t the only impressive effort by Yost; the 5-foot-11 senior post also pulled down 25 rebounds.

Emily Brandland added 19 points and 10 rebounds for Baker, as the Mountaineers led 14-5 after the first quarter and 32-14 a the break.

Jinai Guzman sank three three-pointers to lead Oak Harbor with 11 points. Julie Jansen scored seven points, Rashanna Graham six, Deja Bunch five, AnnaBelle Whitefoot four, Bryn Langrock three, Montana Koslowski two and Janae Payne one.

Graham recorded four assists and Payne had four rebounds.

Oak Harbor shot well (41 percent) but was hurt by 25 turnovers; Mount Baker committed only eight.

Oak Harbor led Anacortes 4-2, then the Seahawks went on an 18-0 run that bridged the first and second quarters.

Langrock drilled a three-pointer early in the fourth quarter to make it 28-17, but the Wildcats would get no closer.

Oak Harbor hit only one of eight three-pointers and shot just 23 percent overall, while the Seahawks shot 62 percent for the game.

Wildcats, who are suffering through a 26-game losing streak, are “trying to look at the positives,” coach Jon Atkins said. “We are changing our focus to things we can change, like turnovers. We had two quarters with less than two turnovers.”

Graham paced Oak Harbor with seven points. Bunch added four; Langrock three; Guzman, Jansen, Taylor Deconzo and Whitefoot two; and Sierra Southwick one.

Oak Harbor (0-6) hosts Meadowdale (3-2) at 7:15 p.m. Monday, Dec. 15.
