The Oak Harbor High School boys basketball team played well at the beginning and end, but host Anacortes dominated the middle quarters to earn a 69-43 win over the Wildcats Saturday, Dec. 13.

The undefeated Seahawks (4-0) outscored Oak Harbor 47-21 in the second and third quarters to take control.

The Wildcats “played well” in the first period, coach John Weston said, and led 11-10 going into the second quarter.

Oak Harbor had some defensive breakdowns in the second and third periods, Weston said, and “didn’t contest shots.”

The Seahawks took advantage and “knocked them down,” according to Weston.

“Pretty much everyone on Anacortes can shoot the ball,” Weston said.

Ty Johnson led the way for the Seahawks, scoring 21 points behind six three-pointers.

“They are a good team that is really experienced,” Weston said. “They played with a lot of intensity on both ends of the floor.”

Anacortes, which led 57-32 going into the fourth quarter, outscored the Wildcats by only one point, 12-11, in the final period.

Oak Harbor’s Dyllan Harris led all scorers with 22 points.

“(He) did a good job of going to the rim aggressively,” Weston said. “He hit 12 of 14 free throws and competed the entire game.”

“I was pleased with the way we kept playing hard until the end of the game,” he added. “Anthony Powell came off the bench and gave us a lot of energy.”

Powell finished with five points, Diangelo McKinney four, Christopher Viers three, Savion Hollins-Passmore three, Sean Erskine three, Ben Fikse two and Zach Jones one.

Oak Harbor (1-4) plays at Meadowdale (2-2) at 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 16.
