Originally scheduled for Thursday, March 27, Oak Harbor’s WesCo North baseball game at Arlington was postponed three times due to inclement weather and finally played on the Wildcats’ home field Monday afternoon.

Even though Oak Harbor was the visiting team, the Wildcats used home-field advantage to dump the Eagles 7-5.

Johnny Encinas was the winning pitcher and the Wildcats upped their WesCo North season record to 3-1 and 5-3 overall.

The Wildcats put two runs on the board in the top of the first inning when Chris Reilly led off with a

single and scored on Encinas’

triple. Encinas scored the sec-

ond run on Danny Lura’s in-

field out.

Oak Harbor scored three

additional runs in the top

of the fifth on another Lura in-

field out that scored Reilly a

double by Ben Wolfe and a

wild pitch to take a 5-0 lead.

Arlington answered with

five runs in the bottom of the

fifth to knot the score, but Oak

Harbor pushed across two

additional runs in the top of

the sixth inning to win the

game.

“Except for the fifth inning

we played well,” coach Jim

Waller said. “Only one of the

Arlington runs in that inning

were earned.”

Encinas entered the game

with a runner on second base

and no outs in the bottom of

the sixth inning, and retired

the next six hitters in order to

pick up the win in relief of Lura.

In the Wildcats’ sixth inning,

the Oak Harbor collected con-

secutive doubles from Encinas, Lura and Chris Valencia to put the game in the book.

In all, Oak Harbor had five doubles and two triples as part of its 12-hit attack.

Encinas was 3-for-5 at the plate with a double, a triple and two RBI. Reilly was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and Valencia stroked a double as part of his 2-for-3 game at the plate.

Oak Harbor falls to Everett 10-2

Everett scored single runs in the top of the first and second innings, two more in the fourth and another run in the top of the fifth to build a 5-0 lead, and went on to defeat Oak Harbor 10-2 in Monday WesCo North softball action.

The defeat drops the Wildcats’ league record to 1-2 and 2-4 overall.

Oak Harbor batters collected six hits off Seagulls’ pitchers Cory Matteson and Chailah Formon, and struck out nine times.

Mattison pitched the first six innings, striking out nine Oak Harbor batters.

Ally Pappas had a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning for Everett and Matteson had a solo home run in the top of the seventh when the Seagulls put four additional runs on the board.
