Reedy medalist, ’Cats finish second

The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team finished second in the first of two league meets held Monday at the par-72 Snohomish Golf Course.

The host team was the overall winner with a low score of 378 strokes.

Oak Harbor was second with 393 strokes and Lake Stevens placed third with 400.

Oak Harbor’s Phil Reedy won medalist honors carding a one-under-par 71.

Eric McCardle also shot a good round for the Wildcats finishing with a one-over-par 73.

Judd Ford and Brian Kenworthy both had scores of 80 strokes, Josh Hunt fired an 89 and Matt Fikse rounded out the Wildcats’ scorecard shooting a round of 94.

Oak Harbor softball ends season

Wednesday’s final softball game of the 2008 season started off on a high note for Oak Harbor.

The Wildcats scored three runs in the top of the first inning to take an early lead over Marysville-Pilchuck, but the lead turned out to be short lived.

The Tomahawks scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the first inning and added one more in the bottom of the second to tie the score 3-3.

The roof fell in on the Wildcats in the bottom of the third inning as Marysville-Pilchuck scored eight runs and went on to defeat Oak Harbor 16-6 in a game called after five innings of play on the 10-run rule.

Trailing 11-3, the Wildcats scored three times in the top of the fifth inning to narrow the margin to 11-6, but the Tomahawks put the game in the book with five runs in the bottom half of the inning.

Aria Araceley and Anna Skurdal were both 2-for-3 for the Wildcats who ended the season 1-15 in league games and 2-18 overall.

Tigers batting barrage sinks Wolves

Granite Falls banged out 28 hits and defeated Coupeville 14-7 in a Wednesday Cascade Conference softball game.

The Tigers put at least one run on the board in every inning but the third to win their 12th league game of the season.

Nikki Griffin was 3-for-4 with a double for Coupeville (1-16 league, 1-17 overall).
