Oak Harbor takes 4th out of 14 at Gamble Sands Invitational / Boys golf

The Oak Harbor High School boys golf team placed fourth out of 14 teams in the 3A/4A division of the Gamble Sands Invitational in Brewster Tuesday and Wednesday, April 16 and 17.

“I am really proud of the kids,” Wildcat coach David Smith said. “They all played well.”

Oak Harbor shot a 328, trailing Kamiak (293), Ferndale (315) and Glacier Peak (320).

Nick Krantz led the Wildcats by placing eighth out of 131 in the individual standings with a 75.

Nate Thompson shot 82, Haven Brown 83 and Cole Valdez 88.

Thompson’s score was his best in his career on the Gamble Sands course, according to Smith, and Valdez’s 88 was “a great score” for a freshman playing for the first time at Gamble Sands.

Devin Kim of Kamiak was the medalist with a 69.

Oak Harbor and the Wesco North schools play at Stanwood’s Camaloch Golf Course at 3 p.m. Wednesday, April 18
