Oak Harbor scores big early and late to dump Mariner / Softball

After watching an early lead slip away, the Oak Harbor High School softball team recovered to thump Mariner 17-9 in a non-league game Friday, March 22, in South Everett.

Oak Harbor built a 7-2 lead after two innings but the Marauders eventually evened the score in the fourth inning.

Oak Harbor then exploded for four runs in the fifth and six runs in the sixth to put the game away and break a four-game losing streak.

The Wildcats (2-4) host Lynnwood (1-5) in the conference opener at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 26.

Oak Harbor jumped on Mariner by scoring five runs in the first inning. Consecutive singles by Sam Scott, Emily Wilson and Cierra LeGendre resulted in two runs. Kayla Crocker walked and Madisyn Erbe reached on an error to load the bases. Kait Scheer was hit by a pitch, forcing in a run, and an error off the bat of Lulu Wilson resulted in two more runs.

After Mariner (1-5) scored twice in the bottom of the first, Oak Harbor countered with a two-run second. LeGendre singled and scored on Crocker’s triple. Erbe singled in Crocker.

The Marauders scored two runs in the third and three in the fourth to even the score at 7-7.

Oak Harbor plated four runs in the fifth. Maddy Tucker singled and eventually scored on a passed ball. Singles by Lulu Wilson, Scott and Emily Wilson netted another run, and then LeGendre’s plated two more with a triple.

A three-run double by Ceirra Dean, another double by Tucker, singles by Lulu Wilson and LeGendre and two errors fueled the sixth-run sixth.

LeGendre, who earned the pitching win, also led the offense with four hits, three runs and three RBI.

Scott, Emily Wilson, Tucker and Lulu Wilson all had two hits. Crocker, Erbe, Dean and Abigale Fierro each added a hit.
