Oak Harbor invite hailed a success

The first ever Oak Harbor cross country invitational at Wirth Farm was held Saturday and the event was a success according to OHHS coach Eric Peterson.

“It was really neat having the community and kids running together,” he said.

There were 40 community members along with the Oak Harbor cross country team that either ran or walked the 5K race that curved through rolling hills, woods and hay fields.

Although they ran together, the community members and high school team were put in separate categories.

Winning the female open was 12-year-old Abby Leete (27:09), followed by 15-year-old Emma Sadzewicz (29:04).

Middle school cross country coach Mike Briddell, who ran a large group of his athletes, won the male open race at 20:52.

Megan Hall took first in the high school girls division at 22:29 while Josh Dix won the high school boys with an overall best time of 17:52.

The top 10 finishers in each division received a ribbon.

Coach Peterson sent a thank you to Doug and Sherry Wirth for their hard work in preparing the course and opening their property to host the run.

He also thanked the community members for coming out and supporting the high school cross country team with the fund-raiser.

The Oak Harbor cross country team competes in its next meet at 3:45 p.m., tomorrow, Sept. 29 at McCullum Park in Everett against Shorewood, Everett and Mariner.
