Missed chances hurt Oak Harbor in loser-out game | Baseball

Missed opportunities on both offense and defense sent the Oak Harbor baseball team packing from the district tournament after a 6-0 loss in a loser-out game at Ferndale Tuesday, May 8.

The Wildcats (8-14) stranded at least two runners in five different innings and committed five errors to fall from the playoffs in two-straight games.

The game had an ugly beginning for Oak Harbor as the Eagles (14-8) scored four runs in the first against starter Jack Richter with the help of three errors. Two miscues, a walk and a sacrifice fly produced the first run. A double chased home two more, then another error finished the mess.

Two walks and an error netted Ferndale a run in the third.

Oak Harbor managed only three hits against Eagle starter Phillip Dye, but Dye surrendered five walks and a hit batter to keep himself in trouble. Oak Harbor, however, couldn’t take advantage.

The best shot for Oak Harbor to score came in the fifth with Anthony Steward singled and two errors loaded the bases with no outs. A pop-up and double play ended the threat.

Sam Glavick collected the Wildcats’ two other hits, one a double.

Grant Schroeder pitched scoreless ball over the final two-and-a-third innings.
