M-P’s speed bothers Wildcats | Soccer

Speedy Marysville-Pilchuck raced by the Oak Harbor High School soccer team 5-0 Thursday, Sept. 19, at Wildcat Memorial Stadium.

It took the Tomahawks (2-0, 2-2) less than three minutes to score, running by Oak Harbor on a counter attack. The second goal followed a similar pattern.

Wildcat coach Mike Lonborg said, “We had a false sense of security after the three non-conference games that were a lot slower-paced games. Marysville-Pilchuck has great team speed with three or four state track stars that we had a hard time adjusting too. The second half we played better, and we at least got some better ball movement.”

The final three goals “were more our mistakes than anything,” Lonborg said.

Lonborg praised the play of freshman Jen Turnek who “played well and moved around the field well.”

Oak Harbor (0-1, 2-1-1) travels to Marysville Getchell (2-0, 3-1) at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24.
