Island Cheer Extreme, a new cheer group based in Anacortes serving kids ages 4 to 18 in Oak Harbor, La Conner, Anacortes, Mount Vernon and Burlington, is raising funds to send the team to three national competitions later this spring.

The first competition in in Palm Springs, Calif., March 27 and 28, and the second event is the National Level Championship scheduled for Las Vegas, Nev., April 17 and 18.

Finally, the team plans on attending the International All Level World Championship in San Antonio, Texas, on May 2 and 3.

Known as ICE, the team earned enough points to qualify for the competitions by placing second in the Pac West meet Jan. 17 and third at the Evergreen Beach Blast Feb. 7.

Saturday morning, the group was at Saar’s Market Place in Oak Harbor holding a bake sale to raise funds and on Saturday and Sunday, March 14 and 15, the team will host another fundraiser, the first-ever Island Cheer Extreme Camp.

“The event costs $75 per participant and includes a T-shirt, prize and snacks, in addition to having the opportunity to learn from ICE’s coaching staff,” said Michelle Williams, the team’s fundraising director.

The camp will be held at ICE’s training facility, 9117 Molly Ln. Suite 102, in Anacortes. The facility is located off Reservation Road, directly behind Jerry Smith Chevrolet on Highway 20.

The team will be starting a new cheer season in August and will begin taking signups in May

ICE has a hip hop dance team, a mini team, a youth team and a senior team, in addition to a special needs team that is open to persons with challenges who would like to participate in a cheer program.
