The Wildcat offense was fine in the first and third quarters as Oak Harbor kept pace with the Bulldogs, but the shots wouldn’t fall in the even periods.

Both teams were hot early as Mount Vernon sped to a 20-18 first-quarter lead.

The Wildcats’ Bryn Langrock knocked down a trio of three-pointers to help Oak Harbor keep pace.

The scoring tailed off in the second period, but the Bulldogs managed to outscore Oak Harbor 10-4 to lead 30-22 at the break.

Oak Harbor’s offense perked up in the third quarter and the Wildcats trailed by only six, 42-36, heading into the last period.

Langrock finished with four three-pointers and a game-high 16 points.

Mount Vernon (4-5) featured a more balanced attack with five players scoring at least eight points; Allison Marken led with 15.

Lydia Peplinski and Jinai Guzman followed Langrock in Wildcat scoring with six points each. Julie Jansen and Janae Payne had five apiece, and Deja Bunch scored two.

Jansen added three blocks and Payne seven rebounds.

Oak Harbor (1-9) hosts Stanwood (8-2) at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Jan. 9 in the Wesco 3A North opener.
