Huffer shines at PNS championships | Youth swimming

Oak Harbor's Kelly Huffer, who competes for the Bellingham Bay Swim Team, earned high point honors in the girls division at the Pacific Northwest Swim 14-and-under Championships Dec. 13-15 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Oak Harbor’s Kelly Huffer, who competes for the Bellingham Bay Swim Team, earned high point honors in the girls division at the Pacific Northwest Swim 14-and-under Championships Dec. 13-15 at the King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way.

Huffer, an eighth-grader, swam personal bests in all six of her events and won five: 200 butterfly (2:05.211), 400 individual medley (4:30.62), 200 IM (2:08.11), 500 freestyle (5:08.17) and 1,650 free (17:45.15).

She also placed third in the 100 fly (58:63).
Huffer helped BBST place second in the 400 free relay (3:44.52) and eighth in the 400 medley relay (4:14.86).

In several events she competed former teammate Olivia Tungate of the North Whidbey Aquatic Club. Tungate placed second in the 200 backstroke (2:07.98), fourth in the 200 fly (2:08.54), seventh in the 100 fly (59.52), eighth in the 200 IM (2:14.81) and 11th in the 400 IM (4:45.54).
